Maxi Filled Sweet Calzone

The maxi filled sweet calzone is a recipe designed for a super delicious snack that reminds you of a pizza, only it’s sweet.
For all those people like me who are chocolate lovers and would never give up on a good pizza, this is the right dessert.
It is a sweet leavened dough with a filling of dark chocolate cream that wins over everyone.
I used dark chocolate spread, but if it’s hard for you to find, you can opt for Nutella.
Simple to make, the only drawback, like all leavened doughs, is the rising time, but if you like leavened goods, you’ll be willing to wait for a super delicious result.

Maxi Filled Sweet Calzone
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Medium
  • Rest time: 3 Hours
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 6 people
  • Cooking methods: Electric oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients to make the Maxi Filled Sweet Calzone

  • 3 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 7 oz Warm water
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 packet Dry yeast
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Extra virgin olive oil
  • 10 1/2 oz Dark chocolate spread or Nutella
  • 1 oz Powdered sugar

Preparation of the Maxi Filled Sweet Calzone

  • I made the dough in the stand mixer, but you can also make it by hand, of course.

In the stand mixer, put the warm water and dissolve the dry yeast, then add the sugar, 200 grams of all-purpose flour, the extra virgin olive oil, and mix everything well for a couple of minutes.

Add the remaining 250 grams of flour, the salt, the ground cinnamon, and continue working with the stand mixer until you obtain a well-combined dough ball.

Let the dough rise until it doubles in a warm place, then take the dough out, transfer it to a work surface, kneading it just enough to form a smooth ball

  • …..then roll it out to form a rectangle.

If you want, you can roll the dough directly on a sheet of parchment paper, to avoid any issues later when transferring it into the baking tray.

Spread the dark chocolate cream on half of the rectangle

  • ….then fold it over itself to create a giant calzone or ravioli.

Place the calzone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper if you didn’t already put it before while rolling out the dough, and let it rise again for at least 1 hour.

  • Once risen, preheat the oven to 392°F and bake for about 15-20 minutes while placing a glass of water in the oven and monitoring the baking.

Remove from the oven, let cool, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
