Pea soup with sauce is a great side dish to offer at the table, and I’m sure it might be a good solution for you too, even when we have guests.
My son and husband love this type of side dish, while I prefer more raw vegetables and especially peas only raw and I must buy few, otherwise, I might feel bad.
In this case, this type of soup was useful for me to also make a first dish for my husband to take to work.
If you have never cooked peas this way, I recommend doing it following my recipe.
You can also make more, so you have some left over to perhaps use for pasta the next day.
If you replicate this recipe or others on my blog, feel free to send me your photos, if you like, I will post them on my fb page under your name.

Ingredients for making Pea Soup with Sauce
- 12 oz fresh or frozen peas
- 1 1/2 onion
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 14 oz peeled tomatoes
Preparation of Pea Soup with Sauce
In a steel pan with high sides, place the coarsely chopped onion with the e.v.o. oil, fry a bit while stirring
then add the tomato passed through a tomato press and mix well, cooking for a couple of minutes.
Next, adjust with salt and pepper and add the peas, mixing well, cover with the lid and continue cooking covered, stirring occasionally.
It will take a little over an hour, but it also depends on the type of peas; those I buy never have the same cooking time.
Once the cooking is complete, the peas should be with a fairly dense sauce but not a dry condiment.
Serve hot and enjoy your meal.
