Tasty Unleavened Bread

The tasty unleavened bread is my version of the classic unleavened bread, known as the poor man’s bread as it was once called, made without yeast or salt, but only with flour and water.

A bread symbolizing the Jewish Passover, traditionally prepared by Jews.

A bread that can be made in just a few minutes, which in today’s fast-paced world, is certainly a great recipe to remember at other times of the year as well.

Unfortunately, as we are used to eating, we might not really appreciate a bread that is too compact and very bland, which is why I added a pinch of salt and a little oil.

The positive note is that by adding oil and salt, they tend to puff up and expand inside during cooking.

A definitely tasty bread and it is very successful at the table.

If you try this or any of my other recipes on my blog, feel free to send me your photos, and I will post them on my Facebook page under your name.

  • Rest time: 1 Hour
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 35 pieces
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Jewish
  • Seasonality: Passover

Ingredients for Making Tasty Unleavened Bread

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil

Preparation of Tasty Unleavened Bread

  • In a bowl, mix all the ingredients to create a homogeneous and well-kneaded dough ball, then cover it for an hour and let it rest.

  • After the time has passed, lightly flour the work surface, roll out a fairly thin sheet, and use a round cutter to cut out dough circles.

  • Prepare a pan with a slightly thick bottom to prevent them from cooking too quickly, heat it up, and set it on low heat.

Place the dough circles on the pan and let them cook for about a couple of minutes on each side; they will be ready to turn when they start to puff up.

  • Serve hot if possible, but even cold it doesn’t become dry, so make it yourself and see if you like my version.
