Savory Puff Pastry Croissants, Small Stuffed Bites

The savory puff pastry croissants are small bites stuffed after baking with cold cuts and salad, perfect for Christmas parties; they are ideal for buffets or as an appetizer. Tasty and flavorful, they can be stuffed based on personal taste. Last year I made the mini savory croissants, and this year I offer them in a fresher yet equally delicious version.

Puff pastry is the only base I often buy ready-made, and when I prepare savory pies or snacks like savory bites, they disappear in a flash. Make plenty because everyone will love them!

The recipe is very simple, and they are prepared in a flash. Just cut a rectangular sheet into many small triangles, bake them, and fill them with cold cuts and salad, pâté, or cream cheese, or dried tomatoes. In just a few minutes, you will have a delicious appetizer ready to serve.

Here are some appetizers to try for the holidays:

Ingredients

  • 1 roll puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 1.8 oz prosciutto crudo
  • 1.8 oz cooked ham
  • 0.9 oz mixed salad greens
  • 2.5 oz spreadable cheese (like Philadelphia)
  • 2 tbsps milk
  • to taste sesame seeds

Tools

  • 1 Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • 1 Pizza cutter

Procedure

  • Leave the puff pastry at room temperature for 10 minutes; this way, you can open it without breaking it.

Unroll the puff pastry, use the pizza cutter to cut out 24 wedges.
Roll each wedge on itself, placing the base of the triangle towards you. Roll the base towards the tip to form 24 small croissants.

  • Place them on the baking sheet, slightly close the tips inward to give the croissant shape, brush them with a little milk, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

  • Bake the savory bites in a preheated static oven at 392°F (200°C) for 15 minutes, pay attention to the baking, as they may darken quickly in the last few minutes.

The savory puff pastry croissants are ready, take them out and let them cool. Cut them in half, spread a layer of spreadable cheese on the base, add two leaves of salad and some ham; I filled 12 with cooked ham and 12 with prosciutto crudo.

Transfer them to a platter and serve.

Tips

The savory puff pastry croissants will remain crisp for 1 day, after which the puff pastry will become less crunchy. I recommend preparing them shortly before serving.
