I tasted the Domatokeftedes during a tour inland in Zante, on our trip in September 2022.
We noticed a beautiful taverna, very characteristic, and decided to stop for lunch.
It was at “To diafokereiko” in Koiliomenos, also known as Agios Nikolaos, a historic taverna from 1860 where time seemed to have stopped.
Domatokeftedes are fried tomato patties typical of Santorini and, in general, the Cyclades.
The tomatoes from Santorini are the best, as the island’s rugged terrain and pumice-covered land make the fruits more robust.
The dish consists of a batter made with mashed tomatoes and flour, kneaded together with aromatic herbs, parsley, onion, and mint.
- Difficulty: Very easy

The Ionian Islands:
Santorini, from which the recipe originates, is part of the Cyclades islands, while Zante is one of the seven Ionian Islands, the others are: Ithaca, Corfu, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Cerigo, and Paxos.
