Variants:

There are several variations throughout Chile, the classic one is sometimes referred to as completo-completo to differentiate it from other variants:

Completo Italiano or simply Italiano: topped with diced tomatoes, avocado puree, and mayonnaise. The name derives from its resemblance to the colors of the Italian flag.

Completo a lo Pobre (“Poor Man’s Completo”): with fried onion, French fries, and a fried egg on top of the hot dog. The term “a la pobre” is due to the fact that the main ingredients are the same as the historically favored dish of low-wage workers: lomo a lo pobre.

Tomate mayo (“Tomato-mayonnaise”): as the name suggests, it is a version with only diced tomatoes and mayonnaise.

Brasileño: sausage, melted cheese, and avocado. It is named after the colors of the Brazilian flag.

Chacarero: sausage, diced tomato, green beans, green chili, and mayonnaise. Because it resembles another famous Chilean sandwich, the chacarero indeed.

Chemilico: sausage and scrambled eggs.

Gringo: sausage, diced tomato, pickles, lettuce, onion, and mayonnaise.

Jarpa: sausage, melted cheese, sliced ham, and grilled.
