Makrut lime or kaffir lime is a citrus fruit native to tropical Southeast Asia, its fruits and leaves are widely used in Thai cuisine, for dishes like tom yum or kaeng (leaves and zest). The juice is used as a cleanser for clothes and hair.

We tasted the dish during our trip to Koh Lanta in November 2024 at Bambie’s restaurant.

Ingredients for Thua Thawt Samun Phriai:

  • 5.3 oz peanuts with skin
  • 1 1/4 cups peanut oil
  • 3 leaves kaffir lime leaves
  • 2 red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • to taste salt

Steps

  • In a thick-bottomed pan, heat the oil and fry the garlic, then the red chilies, lemon leaves.

    Finally, add the peanuts.

    Remove each element and absorb the excess oil.


    In a bowl, mash the fried garlic, red chilies, and lemon leaves, add the peanuts and salt and mix.
