Apple Jam in the Bread Machine: the easy, worry-free recipe.
Making preserves at home has an ancient charm, but we don’t always have the time to spend hours stirring on the stove.
That’s why apple jam in the bread machine (MDP – bread machine) has become one of my favorite solutions: it’s a quick, clean and absolutely worry-free way to get a fantastic result.
The inspiration for this recipe came from my father, who brought me apples from his garden.
They had been picked a little early because they risked spoiling; not being juicy and sweet enough to eat raw, I immediately thought of turning them into a delicious jam.
That’s the beauty of cooking: nothing is wasted, everything is transformed into something tasty!
For this preparation I used my Panasonic Croustina, but you can easily adapt the recipe to any bread machine that has a “jam” program.
The advantage is incredible: you just need to cut the apples into cubes, put all the ingredients directly into the pan and press a button… the machine will do the rest, keeping the temperature constant and stirring for you.
The great thing about this recipe is its versatility: if you use very sweet, ripe apples, you can safely reduce the amount of sugar for a lighter version.
The texture is also up to you: if you like chunks of fruit, leave it as it is after cooking; if you prefer a smooth, velvety jam ideal for spreading on toast, a quick pass with an immersion blender is enough.
On the blog you’ll also find the classic version cooked in a pot, but I assure you that once you try the convenience of the bread machine, you won’t go back.
It’s perfect for filling tarts, cookies or simply to enrich your everyday breakfast with the true flavor of garden fruit.

Ingredients to make Apple Jam in the Bread Machine
- 4 medium apples (about 4 cups chopped / 1.1 lb) apples
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar (about 240 g)
- juice of 1/2 lemon
Tools
- 1 Bread machine
Preparation of Apple Jam in the Bread Machine
Take the bread machine pan, insert the blade, peel the apples, cut them into pieces and put them in the pan. Add the sugar and the lemon juice.
Insert the pan into the machine and start the jam program; my Panasonic Croustina has program 18.
Let the machine work; at the end it will emit a sound and you can transfer the jam into a large jar, but if you want it without pieces, just blend for a few seconds with an immersion blender.
If you prefer a thinner jam, add 1/2 cup of water at the beginning of the program, or add it at the end and cook in a pot for a few minutes after adding the water.
Once placed in the jar, seal it well and immerse it in a pot of water until completely covered.
Bring the pot with the jar to a boil and, from the moment it starts boiling, let it sit for 30 minutes.
After the time has passed, turn off the heat, slightly lift the lid and let it cool in the pot.
When it has cooled you can store it in the pantry for future use.
If the jam will be used within a month or two, you can store it in the refrigerator without boiling it.
