St. Joseph’s cookies are a traditional Sicilian recipe, and these cookies can be made in a ring shape or a stick shape, but I preferred the ring shape.
Very simple and quick to prepare… they result in a dry cookie that is generally dipped in wine, but they are also delicious to nibble on.
We are generally used to eating desserts filled with cream or fried for the Father’s Day, but these are certainly worth trying, very good!!!
Make the recipe yourself and if you make this or any of my other recipes on my blog, feel free to send me your photos, and I will put them on my FB page in your name.

Ingredients for Making St. Joseph’s Cookies
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon liquid vanilla
- 1/2 cup lard
- 7/16 cup milk
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 4 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 dash of milk
- to taste sesame seeds
Preparation of St. Joseph’s Cookies
In the cake mixer, place the eggs and sugar and beat well, then add the warm milk and softened lard and mix again.
Add the vanilla, a pinch of salt, the baking powder, and the flour a little at a time, mixing for a few minutes, working until it is possible to do so with the mixer, then pour the mixture onto a work surface and continue working until all the flour is incorporated.
Create a dough ball and let it rest for half an hour, then cut pieces of dough about 8-9 inches long and slightly thicker than a finger.
Create rings and score them around the circumference, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and position the rings on it.
Brush them with the egg yolk and milk mixture and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
