Baked Crostoni with Ham and Cheese

The baked crostoni with ham and cheese are the perfect snack or, if made smaller, an appetizer for a relaxed home lunch!

I used SMOKED HAM, the Prague style, which, combined with smoked SCAMORZA, makes the result appetizing and almost gourmet!

A small dice of tomatoes adds color and a few green rounds of SPRING ONION make the dish even more tasty and colorful — which is always a plus!

Out of curiosity I used a fairly compact loaf-style bread I found at Esselunga with a compact crumb that seemed ideal, but if you prefer for savory crostoni I also recommend Apulian bread or Tuscan unsalted bread (i.e., unsalted)!

Baked crostoni with ham and cheese

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread
  • 8 slices Prague cooked ham
  • 8 slices smoked scamorza
  • 3 datterini tomatoes (small plum tomatoes)
  • 1 spring onion (scallion)
  • to taste salt

Tools

  • Aluminum baking pans

Steps

First, I preheat the oven to 392°F.

I lay out the slices of bread on a cutting board and, assembly-line style, place the Prague ham on top and a few very thin slices of SMOKED SCAMORZA.

I wash and dry the datterini tomatoes and cut them into pieces.

I also wash and dry the spring onion and cut a few green rounds with scissors.

I continue assembling the bread, cheese and ham crostoni, adding some tomatoes and a spring onion stalk.

I put them in the oven immediately for 5–6 minutes, then finish under the grill to brown the top of the crostoni.

They were so good I almost ate them all before my son came home — luckily he arrived in time!
