Autumn is a wonderful season, especially for the colors of nature and its seasonal fruits like pumpkins or chestnuts. The latter are among the most exquisite things I love to eat every year.
Every 12 months, I love to personally go pick them in the various chestnut groves present in my area. Specifically, in the Madonie, near the town of Petralia Sottana, it’s easy to find them in quantity once you venture into some forest.
In this recipe, we focus on air fryer cooking, which manages to give a really good result. It’s a fairly simple procedure that involves soaking the chestnuts before cooking them directly in the basket!

Steps
For Chestnuts in Air Fryer
First, make a horizontal incision on each chestnut without cutting too deep.
Then, soak all the incised chestnuts in a bowl full of water for about 30 minutes. This way, we return the necessary moisture to the chestnuts for this type of cooking.
Next, drain the chestnuts in a colander, leaving them slightly wet. There’s no need to dry them before moving on to the next step.
At this point, remove the air fryer basket, insert all the chestnuts inside, and cook for 16 minutes at 392°F. You can also add some salt if you prefer.
At the end of cooking, pour all the cooked chestnuts onto a cotton cloth and wrap them completely for 5 minutes. This step makes it easier to peel the skin.
Finally, open the cloth and serve the chestnuts while they’re still warm!
Tip!
You can also soak the chestnuts first and then cut them before cooking.
