I have always been a big fan of international cuisine and often find myself preparing dishes inspired by different culinary cultures such as Asian, Indian, or ethnic in general. Therefore, I love creating such recipes by always personalizing them in my own way.
In light of this, today I’m offering you a fusion recipe derived from Tex-Mex cuisine since we are talking about an irresistible burrito stuffed with chili meat flavored with barbecue sauce. To complete, I added pepper along with pieces of cheese inside the burrito, which I finally grilled on an electric grill.
I really liked the result! I appreciated the overall taste given by the ingredients I chose and especially the typical softness of the tortilla, which I find essential for this type of preparation!

Steps
To make the Burrito with Barbecue Chili
Start by taking 2 carrots and 1 white onion and finely chop them using a chopper. Once done, set the chopped mix aside before moving to the next step.
Continue by taking the saucepan and heating a layer of extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Once it reaches a suitable temperature, sauté the chopped carrots and onions for a few minutes.
Proceed by adding turmeric, sweet paprika, and salt to the sauté. Let it infuse for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally.
Next, add the ground beef to the saucepan and break it up using a spoon or spatula with a flat edge. Let it infuse for 2 minutes with the aromatic sauté.
At this point, add the tomato paste, water, and mix everything well. Let it cook for a few more minutes over medium heat, and if you like, add a teaspoon of sugar.
After the time has passed, cover with a lid and lower the heat to a minimum. In this phase, cook everything for at least 50 minutes, making sure to check occasionally. You should obtain a moist chili, without too much water.
Resume by removing the lid and adding the pre-cooked beans, which you should rinse under running water first. Mix well and cook, uncovered, just for a few minutes. Finally, turn off the heat and let it cool.
Now, when the chili has cooled, add 2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce to the mixture and stir with a spoon before assembling the burritos.
Finally, we are ready for assembly, so take a tortilla, place 2 tablespoons of chili in the center, and season with pepper and 2 pieces of cheese as shown in the image sequence below.
To close the burrito, start by folding the outer edges towards the center and then rolling it from start to finish. With this technique, we will obtain a bundle that prevents the filling from spilling out.
To complete, turn on the grill and grill your burritos until brown stripes appear. Once ready, remove them and place them on a plate or cutting board.
Tip!
Cook slowly and over low heat, necessarily with the lid on.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Can I use flatbreads instead of tortillas?
No! Flatbreads, especially the industrial ones, tend to break when rolled.
Can I use chili peppers?
Certainly! But in this case, it’s better if fresh, to be added during the chili cooking.
