Sweet Yogurt Rolls

These Sweet Yogurt Rolls are delightful soft buns with a delicate vanilla flavor. They are so soft, soft they melt in your mouth!
They are made with very few ingredients and are very easy to prepare. The real surprise is that they are oil-free and butter-free, perfect for a light but super tasty breakfast. With just a few steps you get a truly amazing result.
They are ideal at any time of the day, but for breakfast they are simply perfect. Imagine dunking them in milk or spreading your favorite jam on them… a sweet way to start the day off right.

Ingredients for the sweet yogurt rolls

  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour (or spelt (farro) flour — about 300 g)
  • 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (or any yogurt you prefer — about 250 g)
  • 1 packet baking powder (16 g (about 4 tsp))
  • 1 egg
  • 6 tbsp granulated sugar (about 80 g (3.2 oz))
  • to taste chocolate chips

Steps for the yogurt rolls

  • In a large bowl, pour the whole egg and the sugar. Beat vigorously with a whisk until you obtain a light and frothy mixture.
    Add the yogurt and mix well to incorporate it into the batter.
    At this point, start adding the flour in three additions, alternating and mixing.
    Add the baking powder together with the last addition of flour.
    Work the dough for a few minutes. Don’t worry: the mixture will be very sticky, but manageable.

  • To make handling easier, slightly moisten your hands with cold water. This will prevent the sticky dough from sticking too much.
    Take small portions of dough and quickly shape smooth balls of about 2.1–2.5 oz (60–70 g) each.
    Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a bit of space between them.

  • If you want a chocolate version, divide the dough in half after adding the baking powder.
    In one half, fold in a handful of dark chocolate chips. Mix to distribute them evenly.
    Then proceed to form balls with the enriched dough as well.

  • Arrange the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure there is space between each roll.
    Bake in a preheated conventional oven at 356°F.
    Cook for 13–15 minutes.

  • Remove the Sweet Yogurt Rolls from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
