Boiled Red Chard

in ,

When I first saw the chard, or red chard, in the vegetable section of the supermarket, I was enchanted by the beauty of this vegetable! The reason for this visual surprise is due to the spectacular colors rarely found in other vegetables.

The deep red leaves and bright green stems make this vegetable a beautiful mix of colors that only nature can provide! Moreover, they are excellent from a nutritional point of view as they are rich in minerals, phosphorus, calcium, and iron.

The preparation of the dish is almost trivial, thanks to the fact that it takes little time and few steps to complete the preparation.

Steps

To prepare Boiled Red Chard

  • First, take the bunch of chard and remove the lower part. Then proceed by cutting the whole bunch into pieces about 1 inch wide starting from the base and ending by including all the leaves.

  • To continue, transfer the cut chard into a salad bowl and wash it with plenty of water. If you wish, you can add a food disinfectant. Then rinse with more water and drain everything in a colander.

  • At this point, take a pot and put the cut and washed chard inside. Fill it with plenty of water and turn on the flame setting it at a level to bring everything to a boil.

  • To complete, add the salt, stir, and cover with the lid. Wait for the water to reach a boil and count about 15 minutes of cooking time before turning off the flame.

  • Finally, when cooking is finished, place the portion of boiled chard in a bowl using tongs or a slotted spoon and then pour a few ladles of cooking water. Season with a drizzle of oil and some lemon juice before consuming the chard while still hot!

Tip

Consume the boiled red chard while hot. If you prefer, you can add pepper for garnish.
