Crispy buttery large cookies perfect for dunking. The heart recipe I have always made for my husband.
There are aromas that have the power to take us back in time, and the scent of these buttery large cookies is one of them. They are the classic pantry cookies: big, rustic and incredibly crumbly, perfect for dunking in milk or for enjoying at any time of the day when you crave something good and wholesome.
This recipe is really special to me and holds a small piece of my history: believe it or not, these are my husband’s absolute favorite cookies. I have been making them for him since I was only 14! Since then they’ve never stopped starring at our breakfasts, and every time I bake them the aroma released in the house smells of family and things made with love.
Come with me and let’s start baking.
Enjoy the recipe, Giusi.

Ingredients for Crispy buttery large cookies perfect for dunking
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 7 tbsp butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp baking powder
Steps for Crispy buttery large cookies perfect for dunking
In a bowl, work the softened butter with the powdered sugar until you obtain a creamy texture. Add the egg that you have beaten beforehand and then the flour. Add one teaspoon of baking powder; if you omit it, the cookies will be crunchier.
Once the dough is formed, put it in the fridge for at least an hour; I wrap it in parchment paper. This step is essential to let the butter rest and to make the cookies perfect for dunking.
After the resting time, take the dough out and roll it with a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface or directly on a sheet of parchment paper. To shape my large cookies, I used a simple glass to cut circles and, with a smaller cutter, I cut a heart in the center of each. Place them on a lined baking sheet and bake in the oven at 356°F for about 10 minutes.
Once the large cookies are out of the oven, let them cool completely on a wire rack. If you want to make the heart design more pronounced and indulgent, you can melt some dark chocolate. Use a piping bag or a simple food-safe plastic bag with the tip cut off: just follow the outline of the heart you previously cut to highlight it and make it even more inviting.
I hope these cookies bring a little sweetness into your homes. Thank you for cooking with me. See you on the next kitchen adventure and thank you always for the trust you have shown me all these years.
