Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (about 1.8 oz) rolled oats
- 1/3 cup (about 3.4 fl oz) almond milk (or other plant milk or cow's milk)
- 1 teaspoon honey (or maple syrup)
- 2/3 cup (about 5.3 oz) Greek yogurt (0% fat)
- vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Nutella®
- to taste toasted chopped hazelnuts
Tools
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Serving jar
How to make PORRIDGE with Nutella
In a bowl, mix together the rolled oats, honey, yogurt and almond milk (or cow’s milk or another plant drink). Stir well to ensure everything is fully combined and the oats are evenly coated. Finish with a spoonful of Nutella.
Transfer the mixture into a single-serving glass jar and top with a generous spoonful of Nutella. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the oats to absorb the flavors and soften, resulting in a creamy, delicious texture.
Once set, take it out of the fridge and before eating your Nutella Overnight Oats, garnish with toasted chopped hazelnuts or banana slices.
NOTES ingredients and substitutions
WATER For an even creamier porridge you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or a plant drink (soy, almond, oat, rice).
HONEY Instead of honey you can use maple syrup or agave syrup. For a lower-sugar version, consider reducing the sweetener or omitting it entirely.
VANILLA It’s amazing how a pinch of this extract can improve the taste of your porridge, but if you don’t like it you can omit it.
NUTELLA or HAZELNUT CREAM: If you add Nutella, don’t be stingy but don’t overdo it either. Keep in mind that too much can overpower the oats. Find the balance that suits you.
OVERNIGHT REST: Let the oats rest in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the oats to soften to the perfect consistency.
STORAGE
The NUTELLA OVERNIGHT OATS porridge can be prepared the evening before for the next day — in fact it will be even better. Once ready, store in the fridge in a closed container for up to 2 days.
FAQ (Questions & Answers)
How can I get the right oats consistency with Nutella?
Achieving the perfect oats consistency is all about the oats-to-liquid ratio. In general, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too thick, add a little more liquid; if too runny, reduce the amount of milk/water slightly next time.
How can I balance the sweetness when adding Nutella to the oats?
Nutella Overnight Oats can become too sweet, especially if additional sweeteners are used. Taste the mixture before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup and adjust according to your preference.
Can I heat my Overnight Oats or should it be eaten cold?
Overnight Oats are traditionally eaten cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer them warm you can heat them for a few seconds in the microwave.
