Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3.4 fl oz (about 1/3 cup) milk
- 3.4 fl oz (about 1/3 cup) sunflower oil
- 1/2 tsp orange extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup (about 1.8 oz) chocolate chips
- to taste powdered sugar
Tools
- Ice cream scoop
Steps
In a large bowl, break the egg and add the granulated sugar. Whisk vigorously by hand. Pour in the sunflower oil, the milk and the orange extract. Mix until you obtain a homogeneous batter.
Add the all-purpose flour sifted together with the baking powder and mix with a spatula or a spoon.
Fold in the chocolate chips and mix well.
To shape the cookies, use an ice cream scoop: this gives you perfect balls, all of the same size.
Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.
Dust the surface with powdered sugar.
Bake in a preheated conventional oven at 356°F for 20 minutes, until lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a rack.
Storage
You can store the soft orange cookies in an airtight container for 4–5 days.
If you like, you can also freeze the raw dough already portioned: just bake it when needed, adding 2–3 extra minutes to the baking time.
Tips
You can replace the orange extract with the grated zest of an organic orange for a more natural version and replace the milk with orange juice.
If you prefer a more rustic cookie, try replacing half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
The chocolate chips can be dark, milk, or even white to vary the flavor.
